The Grandmont site chosen for the AMITER competition (Better Planning for Territories in Transition Exposed to Natural Risks) is a strategic location for the future development of Tours. Its proximity to the TGV train station and the amenities related to the presence of nature and the Cher River make it an interface between the city and its natural environment. However, the urbanization ambitions of the metropolitan area seem to conflict with the desire to preserve an essential natural zone for the agglomeration. The project proposes to hybridize nature and city by envisioning the Grandmont meadow as a vast inhabited park where water-related risks are accepted and integrated. The project focuses on a strategic north-south fragment, allowing for the restoration of the site’s natural geography as well as the conservation of significant human-built infrastructures from the last century. The levee, the stadium, and the wholesale market can coexist with a diverse hydrographic network connecting the Boire, the newly accessible lake of Peupleraies, the stream, and the Cher. From a territory serving human activities, our ambition is to also make it a facility for biodiversity.
