The landscape treatment of the inner blocks of the Charles Hermite estate is surprising at first glance, as it stands in stark contrast to what is typically seen in the HBM (Habitation à Bon Marché) areas surrounding Paris. It seems that a sort of inversion has taken place between the mineral and the vegetal: the road vocabulary has disappeared, and pathways weave above what appears to be a vast, lush carpet of vegetation. This is the result of the development carried out in the 1990s by the Péna agency. For this project, we adopt a deliberately heritage-oriented approach, not as a form of preservation in a bell jar, but with the intention of adapting and extending what already exists. We correct some inappropriate modifications, create new pathways necessary for the ground-floor apartments, and replant the large monocultural areas.
